LOCATION: 297 kms from Mumbai, 329 kms from Pune, 133 km from Nashik City, 20 km from Tharabad, 10 Kms from Mangi Tungi.

Introduction

 

Navigad is also called Navagad or Ratangad. It is located in Baghlan area of ​​Nashik district. There are two major hill ranges in the Baghlan region: the Selbari range and the Drubari range. These two ranges run parallel in an east-west direction. Navigad is located in the Selbari Mountains. All these forts were maintained to guard the ancient commercial road connecting Burhanpur and Surat. The road he passes between two hilly areas. Navigad is a small fort but very difficult to climb.

History

Records state that in 1439 there was a fierce battle between the Bahamian and Gujarati kings at the foot of the Navigad River and the adjoining Tambola Hills. Both armies suffered heavy losses, and by night both armies withdrew from the battlefield.

 

Places to see

There are few rock-cut reservoirs and caves in the fortress, and there is nothing else to see. The fort has no fortifications or important structures. There is a small temple of Saptashringi Devi on the way. From the Mangi Tungi fortress, the fortresses of Sarkher, Sarota, Khargad, Muller and Mora can be easily seen.

 

How to reach

There is a good road that can be reached by car to the base village of Patalwadi. It takes about an hour to reach Patalwadi from the nearest town, Tahrabad. It is highly recommended to hire local escorts from Patalwadi village. The trek is a steady climb. There are no trees or rocks on the entire hill. This road is very dangerous and becomes slippery during the monsoons. Rock-hewn stairs are located near the final climb of the fort. There is no good water inside the fort, so it is recommended to carry enough water. It takes about 1 hour to climb the citadel.

How to reach Nhavigad Fort:

By Road: Nashik Road to Mangi and Tungi 133 Kms, Mangi Tungi to Patalwadi around 7 to 10 kms.
