Sarasgad Fort (Pali)

LOCATION: 110 kms from Mumbai, 124 kms from Pune, 60 kms from Lonavala, 66 km Panvel and 39 km from Khopoli.

History:

It was one of the forts which was captured by Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I of Ahmednagar in his konkan campaigns in 1485. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj gave 2000 hones (golden coin used as currency during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj time) for repairing the fortifications of this fort. After the victory over Vasai, Chimaji Appa donated a Portuguese bell to the Ballleshwar temple which he had brought from Vasai in 1739. Till independence, this fort was in Bhor princely state.

How to reach Sarasgad fort:

By Road: Base Village for Sarasgad fort is Pali.

 Travel from Khopoli to Pali

1.      Head to the Khopoli ST stand.

2.      Take an MSRTC bus heading towards Pali. These buses are frequent, with departures every hour or so.

3.      To get from Khopoli to Sarasgad Fort in Pali, Maharashtra, by shared rickshaw, you'll first need to reach Khopoli, then take a shared auto-rickshaw to Pali village, which is the base of the fort. From Khopoli, you can get an auto-rickshaw to Khopoli Phata, and then another vehicle to Parali village or Jhambhulpada Road, which is also near Pali.

Travel from Panvel to Pali

1.      Several MSRTC buses operate on the Panvel to Pali route with a frequency of about one bus per hour.

By Train: Khapoli station which is around 39 kms and 13 km from Nagothane.

 

By Air: Mumbai airport which is around 107 kms.
