LOCATION: 244 kms from Mumbai, 282 kms from Pune, 79 kms from Nashik, 37 kms from Manmad and 13 Km from Chandwad. BEST TIME TO VISIT: September or you can travel any time throughout year.

           

             

Indrai -Fort

   One of the mountain ranges of Sahyadri starts from Surgana in Nasik, and ends at Chandvad. This is called Ajanta Satmaal. Amongst the various forts in this range, Rajdher, Indrai, Koldher and Chandvad lie in the Chandvad taluka.

History:

Much less history about this fort is known. This fort was surrendered to Captain Mackintosh in 1818 after the garrison in the fort saw burning of the neighboring Rajdher fort.

  

The150 rock-cut steps form a valley leading to the fort. A rock-cut inscription in Persian language is seen on the walls on the entrance. There are many rock-cut water cisterns on the fort. The Kacheri, the Mahadev temple, and 10 rock-cut caves are the places to be seen. It takes about one hour to visit all the places on the fort.

How to reach Indrai fort:

 

By Road:

 

Base Village for Indrai fort is Rajdeherwadi and Wadbare village.

 

- Best route for folks from Mumbai and Pune would be from come to Nashik or Manmad.

 

- Take a bus from Manmad to Chandwad, will cost you Rs-50 and get down at Renuka Devi temple and form there you can start your trek to Chandwad fort.

Note: And from opposite site to Renuka Devi temple you can take state transport first bus around 6 am to 6:30 am to Rajdeherwadi.

Don’t forget to visit Renuka Devi temple, Chandreshwar temple, Rangmahal in Chandwad town.

 

By Train: Manmad station which is around 24 kms.

 

By Air: Mumbai airport which is around 240 kms.
