At a distance of 11 km from Burhanpur Railway Station, Raja Jai Singh Ki Chhatri is a tomb located in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. Situated on the banks of the Tapti River, it is one of the popular places in Burhanpur. 

Raja Jai Singh Ki Chhatri was constructed by the order of Emperor Aurangzeb in honor of the memory of Raja Jai Singh. Raja Jai Singh was the commander of the Mughal army in the Deccan. He died in Burhanpur while returning to Amber from the Deccan campaign. It is said that he was cremated at this place. This is also called Raja ki Chhatri.

Raja Jai Singh Ki Chhatri displays Rajasthani & Mughal architectural styles. This square-shaped structure is built on a podium with a fleet of stairs to reach it. Constructed using local black stone, the structure is open from all sides. The chhatri is mounted by a big dome along with eight smaller domes. There are 32 beautifully carved pillars supporting the domes. The dome is very airy from the inside. The cool breeze makes you want to sit there and enjoy the wild vegetation around.

HOW TO REACH

By Road: There is a major road transport structure for reaching Burhanpur, as one can get in to the bus if he wants to reaches here from Indore, which is 183 km away. Since Burhanpur situated on the State Highway – 27, which links it to the Indore, it would be best to drive down from Indore in the bus or hired car or taxi. The nearest town is Khandwa, which is 69 km away and encompasses through Indore-Burhanpur SH-27.

One can reach Burhanpur via Indore, as this is well connected city of Madhya Pradesh and 183 km from Indore. You can take any of following modes of transport.

By Train: Burhanpur town is very well connected by train from other important cities and tourist destinations of India. It lies on Mumbai-Delhi & Mumbai Allahabad rail-route. Burhanpur has its own Railway Station (Railway Code: BAU).
